Indigo Brunch // Norwegian Mini Buttermilk Pancakes: Lapper

Made with buttermilk, these Norwegian pancakes are a small sweet treat for breakfast time. These simple to make pancakes are smaller than your average ones which means they are quicker to create for hungry little mouths... Finish them off with a good spread of sweet blackberry jam.

December has arrived which means that Christmas is just around the corner... Here are at Indigo we love a good traditional Christmas market to get us into the festive spirit. Therefore we've found our Top 5 to help you find some extra special gifts whilst you sip on a goblet of gluhwein.

1 // Birmingham's Frankfurt Christmas Market

Birmingham has been twinned with Frankfurt for over 40 years and so together for the past decade they have created the largest outdoor Christmas Market in the UK.  The highlights of this market are the speciality German food and drinks including sausages, beer, marzipan sweets and traditional Gluhwein (also known as mulled wine).

Alongside the German Market you can discover the Christmas Craft Market which features hand crafted items made from Birmingham's local traders. The markets are currently open now until the 22nd December.

2 // Bath Christmas Market

The Bath Christmas Market is well known for being one of the biggest and best in the UK. In the centre of Bath you will find over 130 beautiful stalls gathered around the iconic backdrop of Bath Abbey.

The market is open now until 15th December and is the perfect place to find unique gifts whilst also being in close proximity to high street and designer stores. So treat yourself to a magical Christmas shopping experience at Bath Christmas Market.

3 // Edinburgh Christmas Market

The Edinburgh Christmas Market has great selection of stalls selling unusual and unique craft pieces and decorations. As well as shopping at the market you can take in the sights of the city, including the stunning Edinburgh Castle from the top of the 100ft ferris wheel. Edinburgh's Christmas Market also boasts Europe's largest open air ice skating rink which can be found in Princes Street Gardens, ideal for keeping the younger shoppers of the family entertained.

The Christmas Markets, Fairground and Ice Rink are open now until 5th January. You can find out more information and pre book tickets to the rides and attractions via the website.

4 // Christmas Open Studios at Cockpit Arts, London

If you prefer finding unique Christmas gifts which you won't find on the high street, visit the Christmas Open Studios at Cockpit Arts in London. This event showcases over 165 independent designer-makers from across the UK selling design originals which you won't find anywhere else. As well as shopping there is live music, demonstrations and Paul Smith's Christmas Picks.

The Christmas Open Studios are from 6th - 8th December. Free entry on Friday 11am - 9pm and £3 entry on Saturday and Sunday 11am - 6pm.

5 // Manchester Christmas Markets

The Christmas Markets in Manchester are celebrating their 15th anniversary and feature over 300 stalls spread over 9 sites across the city centre. The festive chalet stalls are selling crafts, gifts, jewellery, clothes and toys as well as a great selection of food and drink. These award winning markets have stalls to suit every taste and we recommend downloading a map before visiting to ensure you get the most out of your trip.

Simple Suppers // Mushroom and Stout Pot Pie with Sweet Potato Crusts

If you're looking for a simple dinner with a tasty twist, try this Mushroom and Stout Pot Pie with Sweet Potato Crusts from The First Mess. This recipe is perfect for Autumn and features seasonal vegetables such as sweet potatoes and leeks. Derbyshire residents were invited to an sparkling evening shopping event hosted by twelve Matlock retailers - The Antiques Centre, Bow Boutique, Spinderella, The Vintage Rooms, Robert Young, Silvarious, The French Wine People, Grace, Indigo Furniture, Little Gem, Peli Deli and Riverside Vintage were all open from 4pm – 9pm on Thursday 14 November 2013. Promotional flyers handed out in each of the shops were part of a competition trial with twelve prizes, one from each shop.

The event was the perfect opportunity to begin Christmas festivities in Matlock's beautifully decorated shops, boutiques and cafés whilst enjoying a few nibbles along the way!

The French Wine People hosted an in-store wine tasting at Indigo Furniture’s showroom – along with Fresh Basil delicatessen who supplied cheese from Franjoy Dairy, in Hazelwood, made with local milk from dairies in Duffield and Tissington.

Abigail List of Indigo Furniture said “Matlock comes alive at Christmas and we are delighted to announce the addition of eight more shops to this year’s event. The night will be a relaxed affair with retailers offering festive discounts and a little glass of cheer. We’d like to take this opportunity to welcome new shops Riverside Vintage and Spinderella to Matlock and good luck to all who entererd the competition on the night.”

Last week saw the opening of the new Indigo Showroom in Harrogate, North Yorkshire. With a floor space of 3000 sq ft spread over two floors ( third floor to open shortly) The event brought together local businesses to come and explore the new Indigo store whilst enjoying canapés and a tipple of Mulled Pimms.
